MARTA to Hold Public Hearings for Proposed Bus Service Modifications

MARTA will hold public hearings on proposed bus service modifications on June 9 and 10, 2008, to gather input from customers and stakeholders. Staff will be available to provide information regarding the proposed changes and answer any questions for one hour prior to the start of the official public hearing.

MARTA regularly evaluates routes and schedules and proposes adjustments to ensure better schedule adherence and on-time performance. Final changes will be recommended based on feedback received from customers as well as service analysis.

Comments regarding the proposed modifications can also be submitted through June 17, 2008, by leaving a message at 404-848-5660, writing to MARTA's Office of Transit System Planning, 2424 Piedmont Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30324-3330, completing an online Comment Card at www.itsmarta.com, or faxing comments to 404-848-5132. Please visit www.itsmarta.com to review a list of the proposed changes.

Routes considered for modification include:

Route 1 - Marietta Blvd/Centennial Olympic ParkWeekdaysAdjust routing to serve Marietta Blvd between Chattahoochee Avenue and Huff Road with alternating through-trips.
Route 305 - Barfield RoadWeekdaysRoute 305 small vehicle service will be discontinued and replaced with traditional bus service with the new Route 105. Peak frequency will be adjusted to every 30 minutes.
Route 389 - Buffington RoadWeekday,

Adjust routing to serve South Fulton Public Library with selected trips.

Take MARTA to Concerts at Lakewood Amphitheatre this Year

MARTA is the best way to catch all the great live music at Lakewood Amphitheatre this year. MARTA's Lakewood Shuttle provides direct access to all the events getting customers quickly and conveniently to the venue.

Take the North/South rail line to Lakewood/Fort McPherson (S4) to catch the MARTA Shuttle to the Amphitheatre. The Shuttle runs until an hour after the venue closes.

Fare, including transfers between the Shuttle and MARTA rail, is $1.75 each way. Customers are encouraged to purchase round trip fare at the start of their trip.

Parking for less than 24 hours is free at all MARTA parking facilities.

MARTA Police Officers and Staff Honored at Annual Awards Luncheon

MARTA's finest were honored recently at the Annual Police Awards Luncheon, which is held each year to recognize the outstanding performance, extraordinary acts of bravery and lifesaving events performed by the men and women of the MARTA Police Department as well as civilians who have assisted the department.

The following awards were presented:

Micah Brown Police Officer of the Year Award - Jessie Tarplin, a member of the Department's Motor Unit, was recognized for regularly going above and beyond the call of duty to offer assistance to fellow officers and respond in emergency situations.

Civilian Employee of the Year Award - Keisha Bailey-Ross, CJIT/Call-Taker, provided exceptional communications support to the Department during long hours and various shifts, exhibiting high professional standards and a strong customer service focus.

Darren Tilmon, Detective of the Year Award - Detective Derrick M. Johnson, a member of the Criminal Investigations Unit, has demonstrated intense motivation, a tenacious spirit and creative investigative techniques that has led to the successful resolution of numerous cases and subsequent arrests.

Supervisor of the Year Award - Sergeant Clifford Martin, a 14 year veteran of the Department, provided exceptional leadership to the Central Precinct Unit and made valuable contributions to crime reduction efforts and strategic special event planning.

Top Shooter of the Year Award - Amy Shumate received the highest score during the spring firearms qualifications class and demonstrated expert marksmanship skills using basic shooting fundamentals.

CIVILIAN AWARD- Presented to individuals other than MARTA Police Officers who perform a courageous act or offer special assistance to the Department.
